WORLD TULU CONVENTION-2013 STUNS ALL TULUVAS IN KUWAIT

The World Tulu Convention amazed Tuluvas in Kuwait with a massive line of guest-list, an array of cultural programs, Tulu Discussions, dance performances by ‘Excellent’ Group, a Tulu Drama ‘Nank Matherla Bodu’ by LakhumiThanda and a Yakshaganaon GandivaBiruva. The World Tulu Convention that took place on the 17th and 18th October at the American International School Kuwait with full packed crowd, was a grand success with superlative performance given by everyone.

Shri Dr. D. Veerendra Heggade, in a message sent to the association, expressed his deep desire to be a part of the Convention as the preparations of the event was taking place since fairly some time now. He mentioned that he could not attend the function due to unavoidable reasons and wished that the Convention would continue with the same tradition and aim of the World Tulu Convention of Ujire. Mr. Vivek Rai, Founder of Tulu Sahithya Academy, presided over this Vishwa Tulu Sammelana. The guests for the first day was Mr.Ivan D’Souza, General Secretary of the Karnataka Congress Pradesh Samithi and for the following day was Abhay Chandra Jain, Youth, Sports and Fisheries Minister. The Ambassador of India to Kuwait, H.E. Mr. Satich C Mehta, was present at the event. He was felicitated and in his speech he wished the very best for Tulu Koota Kuwait.

The Guest list included Mr. B.R. Shetty, a well-known business man, Professor Dr. Abdul Rahiman, Academician, Professor Dr. VamanNandavar, writer and professor, his wife Prof. Chandrakala Nandavar, Dr. Chandrashekar, Managing Director of Adarsh Hospital Udupi, International Photographer -Astro Mohan, Social Worker Mr. Harish Pergade, Famous Drama Artist and director Mr. Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, Janapada Artist Mr. Dayanand Kattalsar, Mr. Raymond D’Souza of the Mr. World Fame, Editor Chief of Udayvani Mr. Manohar Prasad and Expert in Mimicry and hosting Tonse Pushkal Kumar, Mr. Khaled Hamdan Al Saif , CEO and Deputy Chairman and Mr. Ali Al Khandary , Administration and Training Manager of National Petroleum Services company .

Under the able leadership of President Ramesh Kidiyoor, with the co-ordination of Cultural Secretary, Suresh Salian and all the committee members the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan reached out to the hearts of the people. The event started off with a traditional procession. The procession for both the days charmed kids and adults alike, with the traditional Tiger dances, jokers, dancers, Chende, an elephant and much more. The welcome team made an impressive presentation with traditional food items, Tulunadu antiques and sweets displayed in a very traditional manner.

The Convention was announced open with the Lighting of the Lamp and welcome speech by President, Mr. Ramesh Kidiyoor. In his speech, he welcomed all the guests and thanked everyone who worked hard for the convention. He also informed the audience that the foremost motto of the event was to support the Inclusion of Tulu Language to the 8th Schedule of the Constitution. The world Tulu Convention Souvenir was released in innovative and creative manner by Managing Committee members and esteemed guests. All the former Presidents of Tulukoota Kuwait were present on the grand event of World Tulu convention 2013.

Guest Hosts Manohar Prasad &Tonse Pushkal Kumar along with Bhavishya Shetty, Shobha Bhandary & Swarna Shetty hosted the event with grace and grandeur. The First day of the event witnessed various cultural activities by different associations of Karnataka in Kuwait. Billava Sangha Kuwait contributed a very touching performance on the twin heroes of Tulu Nadu, Koti Chennaya. Bunts Kuwait showed Tulu Naduda Porlu and Navartna Madmalna Porlu. Kuwait Canara Welfare Association displayed an excellent traditional dance, while Navachetna Yuvaka Mandal beautifully performed Fishermen dance. United Mangaloreans of Kuwaitwell exhibited the ritual of the “Roce” event which takes place a day before every Mangalore Christian wedding.

“Excellent” dance team shocked one and all with their synchronized performances on both the days. Their shows based on “Nava Durga”&“Tulu Nadu Shristi”were highlights of the respective days. Aditi Suvarna, Shantala Sathish and Athira Gopu Kumar also teamed up to give Fusion and other classical performances as local artists. The talented Tulu Koota Kuwait children all geared up to give an awesome and lovely performance named Tulu Siri, showcasing different occupations and communities of Tulu Nadu. The children looked beautiful and elegant in different outfits enhancing the look of the show. Tulu Siri was conceptualized by Suresh Salian and Tharendra Shettigar.

As per the custom, the convention witnessed two Tulu language discussions (Shibira) conducted one on each day. The first Shibira was based “The Role of the Media and Publications in the upbringing of Tulu Language and Culture” and the participants were Mr. VivekRai, Mr. Sharfuddin BS, Mr. Vaman Nandavar, Mr. Manohar Prasad &Astro Mohan. Following day “Tulu Nadu Culture – Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow” was discussed by Mr. VivekRai, Mr. Vijay Kumar Kodialbail, Mr. Dayanand Kattalsar& Mrs. Chandrakala Nandavar.

The first day of the event was concluded with an energetic performance given by Yakshagana artists on GandivaBiruva, while the second day had the audience clap with laughter on the performance of the LakhumiThanda Group on “Nank Matherla Bodu”, led by Kishore D Shetty.

The Convention came to an end with Mr. VivekRai’s speech on the brief of the Convention. He summarized that all the programmes of the Convention were very well displayed and said that he felt at home even in this Gulf country. He also wished the best of luck to Tulu Koota Kuwait and all its members. General Secretary Wilson D’Souza has rendered vote of thanks.

Banana Leaf Restaurant and M&M Confectionaries served food for the guests and artists alike.

Note : Raffle Draw has been postponed and to be held during AGM-Annual General Body Meeting which will be held on Friday, December 13, 2013 at 6:00pm Venue: Khaitan Indian Community School Auditorium.
